After growing up in the Texas Panhandle and spending countless hours in Palo Duro Canyon, our founding brothers wanted to provide a family and pet friendly hangout spot to grab a cold beer and spend time with family, friends, and make new connections. Sad Monkey Mercantile offers hot food, cold beer, wine, gourmet coffee, games, playground equipment, live music on the weekends, and much more. Get away and come see us today!

About the "Sad Monkey" Name

Our namesake comes from the Sad Monkey rock formation that overlooks the amphitheater where the world famous play TEXAS is performed. From 1955 to 1996 there was also a miniature train with the name "The Sad Monkey Railroad" that would take visitors on tours through the state park. The train engine itself has since been restored and is now displayed in the city of Canyon, not far from the courthouse square.
